Nettle Salt

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on May 2, 2012 at 10:26am

As someone who spends a lot of time in grocery stores, it’s hard to deny the primal thrill of foraging for edibles in the great outdoors. It’s similar to the pleasure in picking tomatoes I’ve grown myself, except a bit more powerful. There is, in fact, a Hierarchy of Food-Gathering Satisfaction, which exists completely in…

Grilled Butterflied Shrimp (Paleo, AIP)

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Apr 24, 2012 at 1:44pm

These grilled butterflied shrimp are more of a technique than a recipe, a simple way to grill truly shrimpy shrimp. Shrimp shells are where the flavor is at – even if you’re preparing shelled shrimp for a salad or pasta, keep the shells! Either freeze them in an airtight plastic bag or make quick batches…

Pea and Parsnip Vichyssoise

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Apr 24, 2012 at 11:39am

You can whip up a batch of this simple, gorgeous soup any time because frozen peas are quite lovely when pureed. But as fresh peas come into the market, make it then too, and enjoy the essence of spring, garnished with fresh mint and chives, cold from the fridge. Recie for Pea-and-Parsnip Vichyssoise at Andrew Zimmern’s…

Sopes

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Apr 24, 2012 at 10:33am

It’s a little bit ridiculous that I haven’t posted about sopes before – I make and devour them several times a week. In fact, I’m a maniacal cornmeal cake fan in general. Chef Thomas Boemer had an insane version on Corner Table’s menu a couple of weeks ago, with a bit of lard kneaded in,…

Ham Fritters

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Mar 28, 2012 at 6:15am

I made the original saltcod version of these fritters via Andrew Zimmern’s Kitchen Adventures and watched my friends and family devour them. I love fritters! I love anything fried! So I created two versions – both glutenful and gluten-free – and was delighted when taste testers couldn’t tell the difference between the two. If fritters…

Fried Egg BLT with Harissa & Avocado

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Mar 20, 2012 at 8:18pm

This sandwich is so delicious it makes even gluten-free bread seem divine. Inspired by the movie Spanglish – worth seeing for a couple of killer food scenes, thanks to consulting chef Thomas Keller – it’s basically just a glorified BLT. But I love glorified, especially when the glory is via a fried egg, and melted…

Rice Flour-Coconut Milk Pancakes

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Mar 11, 2012 at 7:19pm

I saw this recipe this week for Sri Lankan rice flour-coconut milk pancakes. With yeast! I couldn’t wait to make them. They are ridiculously delicious, no surprise. Is anything made with coconut milk not amazing? The stuff blows my mind and palate, over and over and over again. Love. Make sure to try the onion…

A Chicken Soup Supper

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Mar 8, 2012 at 11:03am

I am obsessed with food writer MFK Fisher (1908-1992). No one writes about food more sensually, with as much humor, and common sense, all together, and I can’t get enough. I took her book With Bold Knife and Fork, published in 1969, with me on vacation last week and was highlighting so many passages on…

Red Cabbage & Squash Gratin

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Mar 5, 2012 at 8:27am

I made this colorful dish for Christmas dinner and am just getting around to sharing it with you now. I’d like to say that I sat down and thought about everyone’s favorite vegetables and what would be pretty with the rest of the meal but honestly…I got rushed, and behind, and realized awfully late that…

Golden Coin Chicken-n-Shrimp Skewers with Peanut Sauce

Posted by Stephanie Meyer on Feb 19, 2012 at 8:40am

Tender chicken and shrimp wrapped around sugar cane, grilled, then topped with spicy peanut sauce. Wrap in lettuce leaves and devour, preferably less maniacally than I did, I could not get enough of these. Recipe for Golden Coin Chicken-n-Shrimp Skewers with Peanut Sauce at Andrew Zimmern’s Kitchen Adventures/Food & Wine Magazine.
